Courses and Study Groups

The Parish Reading Groups

If you fancy reading a book and then discussing it with other members of the congregation, one of these groups could be for you. One meets on a Wednesday afternoon at 8, Greyfriars Close, from 1.30pm until 3.00pm; the other on a Thursday evening at the Vicarage from 7.30pm.

In the autumn we study a biblical book; in the months leading up to Lent the choice is usually of a spiritual nature; and leading up to the summer we often opt for a novel or a biography.

As announced in April’s Parish Magazine, the Wednesday Afternoon Group is reading CALL THE MIDWIFE: A True Story of the East End in the 1950’s, by Jennifer Worth.

Wednesday, 2 May                 Pages 1 - 103

Wednesday, 16 May               Pages 104 - 200

Wednesday, 30 May               Pages 201 – end

If you would like to join us, please, contact the Parish Office by telephone or email and we will obtain a copy of the book for you, at a cost of £5.99.

In June, both groups will be reading UNRELIABLE SOURCES: how the 20th century was reported, by John Simpson. The Daily Telegraph described it as ‘Lively and refreshingly partisan’! The full cost is £9.99 but we would hope to obtain copies for no more than half of that. Please, sign the list in the Foyer if you would like a copy.

Wednesday Afternoon Group:

Wednesday, 13th June             Chapters 1-12

Wednesday, 27th June             Chapters 13 –end

Thursday Evening Group:

Thursday, 28th June                 Chapters 1-12
